You are in luck because I am sharing the exact FIVE steps you need to be successful in cleaning out your basement. Yes! Step one – clear your schedule and set a date

I will be honest, cleaning out your basement is in fact a ginormous task. It most definitely is not for the faint of heart. But the good news is YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY DO IT! It is usually the hardest tasks, the tasks that seem the most daunting that are the most rewarding! So for starters, know that you got this! Next, the most important thing to do is to make it actually official! Go ahead and look at your calendar, talk to your people and establish a concrete date of when the big basement clean out is going to happen. Once you do that, you are ready to move on to step number two!

Step Two – Have a plan

The second step to cleaning out your basement is to have a plan. This is the most important part of the entire decluttering and cleaning out process. If you are anything like me than cleaning out your basement is one of the biggest home projects you have attempted and you are going to be dealing with A LOT of things! Therefore, set yourself up for success by having a plan.

You want to make sure you have a plan in place for how you are going to clean your basement. Start with the intention. What is the purpose in the basement clean out? Is it to create a new living space? Is it to reorganize your storage center? Is it to simplify your living arrangements? Start with the purpose and go from there.

Once you have your purpose, make a plan for what is going to happen to all of your things. Make a plan for where the things that need to be moved to the correct part of the house go. Additionally, have a plan for where you are going to store the things that need to be donated. Also, go ahead and make a plan for how you are going to dispose of all your trash and junk.

If I can tell you one thing for certain – that is cleaning out your basement is going to result in a lot of crap that needs a place to go. And thankfully, I have a solution just for that!

Step three – Take it section by section

The third key step to cleaning out your basement is to take things section by section. Anytime you are embarking on an overwhelming task, it is important to take things one step at a time. Therefore, in order to effectively and successfully clean out your basement, take it one section at a time. Work on one section and get through that section before moving onto the next. This will ensure you stay focused and not overwhelmed. Remember, you absolutely got this!

step four – have fun

The fourth step to a basement clean. out is essential – have fun! Make this something that you enjoy. The truth is, anytime we work through our mess and work through cluttering, we are allowing ourselves the opportunity to better ourselves! Therefore, trust the process and have fun! Grab your favorite beverage, that large cup of iced coffee, your favorite productive wardrobe, and turn up the Spotify playlist full blast and HAVE FUN! Enjoy the moments and enjoy yourself as you work through and accomplish the humongous task of cleaning out your basement.

Step five – Schedule small breaks

Finally, the fifth and final step of your basement clean out is to schedule small breaks throughout your workday or work-weekend to allow yourself moments to regroup and refocus. If you try to go hard every single second of your scheduled clean out date, you are going to burn yourself out and stay in the exhaustion of overwhelm. Instead, go hard for an hour or two, or focus on one section before giving yourself a quick moment too reset. This will ensure your basement clean out is a total success!

I hope you take these five steps to a successful basement clean out to heart and allow these tips to create a place within your home that is free of clutter, full or purpose and makes your heart happy!
