The holidays can be hard. They can be also be exciting, fun, stressful, anxiety-driven, overwhelming, overstimulating, trauma inducing. They can be all the things, and more! Additionally, the holidays can be full of all the family. While, for others the holidays can feel incredibly lonely. With so many emotions, it is so incredibly important to be sure you are prioritizing self-care this holiday season. Seriously, taking care of you is so important, not just during the holidays, but all year round. Therefore, sharing SEVEN specific steps you can take to make sure you prioritize self-care this holiday season.
The very first step, to ensure you prioritize your self care this holiday season and do the things to take care of you is to have a quiet moment that you can count on throughout the day. And then a back-up quiet moment for if the first moment gets lost in the crazy. Seriously, this one little act is so important. Create a tiny window of your day that is yours and truly yours. A time of the day that you can truly count on to provide a reset and encouragement.
This could be a few moments to yourself in the early morning hours before the rest of the family wakes up. Or this could be a few moments at the end of your day before going to bed. Find a quiet moment throughout your day that you can count on. And when you are there, when you are in that moment of quiet, eliminate the distractions, and do the things that make your heart and soul come alive.
The second step to prioritizing your holidays self care is to create a consistent and quick self-care routine. Create a quick self-care routine that you can rely on consistently each and everyday. Something that is simple, easy, and won’t take up a lot of your time. This can be in the form of your morning routine with your favorite cup of coffee, morning devotional, journal or book. This also can include your bedtime routine. Or maybe a little refreshing wind-down as you are getting ready for bed with your favorite face soap, moisturizer, and lotion. The key here is something quick and simple to let you reset and that takes care of YOU at the same time.
Another essential to your holidays self care is to journal regularly. Keep a journal nearby and resort to it often. It doesn’t have to be a large journal, a small journal works perfectly fine! Keep a small journal in your purse, or diaper bag, or on your nightstand. As long as it is somewhere that is convenient and easy to get to that allows you a place to deposit and store your thoughts. There is so much freedom and purpose to getting your thoughts out of your head and letting them live on paper. It is such a powerful release that allows you to think more clearly and freely. Journaling regularly is an essential step to taking care of you and I encourage you to make it apart of your routines this holiday season.
Additionally, I also am a big believer in the power of a good journal. Recently, I found my latest, favorite journal that has absolutely revolutionized my journaling. Not only is this journal gorgeous, but also has pre-organized tabs to allow for easy organization. Seriously, you will love this journal as much as I do, I am sure of it!
Number four on your list of how to take care of you and prioritize holidays self care this season is to spend time outside. Spend beautiful moments and precious time outside. Yes, it is cold. Yes, there are fewer hours of daylight. And yes, our bodies are meant to thrive in the outdoors. Even if it just for a few minute each day, spend time outside. Go for a walk while listening to your favorite podcast. Or head to the park or your favorite playground. Spend quality and intentional time outdoors as this is essential to truly taking care of you!
The firth step to taking care of you this holiday season is a big one. Go to therapy. Seriously, every single human can benefit tremendously by talk therapy and having another individual to talk with and sort through all the thoughts, heavy feelings, and emotions with. Therapy is so incredibly beneficial for our total health and wellness. If you have the ability, do yourself a huge favor and go to therapy. This is one of the biggest steps you can take to prioritize taking care of you and your self-care throughout the holidays, as well as all year long. Another key step to taking care of you and prioritizing your self-care this holiday season is to stay hydrated. Simple, but so incredibly beneficial. Drink more water. More water than usual. Start your day with a large cup of iced cold water. And keep drinking it all day long. This is crucial to allow you to feel your very best version of yourself. Little trick here to drink more water, invest in a water bottle that you can truly enjoy drinking in all day long. For me, I finally caved and got the water bottle that is all the hype these days, the Stanley Thirst Quencher. Let me tell you, it is every bit worth the hype. And something I feel good about drinking all day long. In order to feel you best self and take care of you this holiday season, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You got this!
Finally, the seventh way to prioritize your holidays self care and take care of you this holiday season, take time to do things you love. Even if it is just for a few minutes each day, take those moments and spend them doing the things that you love and that bring you joy! Invite joy in your heart by doing the things you love. This is one of the best ways to connect with yourself and feel alive again. Do you love to curl up with a good book? Then do it! Is watching a Hallmark Christmas movie with a cup of hot chocolate your thing during the holidays? Do it! Spend intentional moments doing the things that you love, the very things that bring you joy. This is so essential to prioritizing you and taking care of yourself!
It is possible for you to live your holiday season by finding rest, enjoying the comfort in your home, and taking the time to treat yourself the way you deserve to be treated. Find the time this season to prioritize your self-care. Take the time to put yourself first because you absolutely deserve it! Wishing you all the love, joy, and happiness as we live our lives this holiday season! Cheering you on each and every day!
