How to Find Rest this Holiday Season

The holidays can be exhausting. The holidays can be tiring. For such an exciting and incredible time of the year, it is a time of the year that is full of so many extra little things to-do. There are just more things that we have to think about during the holidays than any other time of the year. Extra responsibilities, extra needs, as well as this feeling and expectation that everything has to be “on!”

That our homes have to be ready to display a Christmas home tour, or our meals need to be Pinterest perfect. The holidays can present a challenging time of the year full of insane expectations, that barely can be met, when in reality, the real challenge is to just make it through the day still standing. The good news is, you can still find comfort and rest at home, without all those things!

Which it is worth reminding, that you are you and the way you are living your life and serving and showing up, is so incredibly important. The truth is you are doing an incredible job where you currently are. Therefore, you don’t have to turn to anyone else other than yourself and the person you want to be in order to determine if you are worthy and if you are good enough.  Because you are worthy and you are good enough! More than anything, I want you to know that this holiday season.

4 Simple Ways to Find Rest This Holiday Season

No matter what kind of crazy you are walking through, no matter how. hard your season may be, I want you to know that you can find rest this holiday season. Therefore, I am going to share with you FOUR simple ways to help you feel rested and encouraged this holiday season. In order to help you find rest and practice more moments of quiet this holiday season.

So that during the holidays you can embrace the stillness. So that you can find peace and calm in the chaos, believing that it is actually possible. In order for you to live slowly and more abundantly. So that you can remove yourself from the pressure of all the to-dos and to truly prioritize the things that really matter. Fully believing that all of this is possible for you this holiday season. And with these FOUR simple ways to find rest, I believe this can be possible for you this holiday season!

1. It’s okay to say no!

The very first way to find rest this holiday season is to remember that it is absolutely okay to say no. You can say no!  You don’t have to do all the things. It is not necessary to create a holiday season bucket list. Your family doesn’t have to see every single Christmas light display. Nor do you have to bake every single type of holiday cookie. Neither do you have to attend every single event you are invited too. You can say no!

Protect your space and your mindset. Protect your heart. You don’t have to say YES to everything. When you are able to practice saying no, it is incredibly freeing. There is a power and a freedom that comes from saying no. And if you are a people-please, trust me I know how difficult this can be. But, there is a freedom and a rest that comes from saying no!

2. protect your heart

The second essential step to find rest this holiday season, is to protect your heart in your commitments. As you look through your calendar and try to balance all the things, protect your heart. Ask yourself these questions – does it bring you joy, peace, calm? Say yes to those things!

Does it bring you stress, worry, fear, overwhelm? Say no! Weigh each item as you look at your schedule and your to-do list and ask yourself what kind of feeling that creates in your heart. Do you feel purpose? Then, yes! Do you feel fear? Then no! Protect your heart in your commitments.

Rank your to-do list. Focus on the essentials. Work on completing the tasks that are necessary to get done. Forget about the rest. There is so much freedom that comes with that. Additionally, as you work through your chaos and your mess this holiday season. Be sure to focus on the real moments. Focus on the intentional moments. Having the honest conversations. And being okay with that!

3. Find rest through reset

Number three, the third way to find rest this holiday season is to create specific moments for you to be able to reset during your day. Create specific moments of the day that are entirely yours. These moments belong to you and only you. Your reset moment is the time where you get to pour into the things that bring you joy and peace. Nobody else needs you, it is just you and the quiet and the stillness.

This may look like really early moments in the morning full of quiet and purpose. Or maybe its the moments before you go to bed, when everyone else is asleep. Whatever it looks like, create your own personal reset moment throughout your day that you can count on. Moments where you can be fully you and allow yourself to thrive. Once you find these little pockets of the day, be sure to use the time wisely. Eliminate distractions and focus on doing the things that truly matter.

4. Declutter your mind

Finally, the fourth way to find rest this holiday season is to declutter your mind. Let go of the worry. Remove the added distraction. Work through the clutter of your mind. Find the extra weight that you are holding on to. Whether that be spiritual, or mental, or emotional, and let it go! Rid yourself of it. Journaling is a great exercise. Unleash how you feel, let it out into the world so it is free from your heart.

There are so many options for decluttering your mind. You can do this through prayer, or meditation. There are so many ways to physically release your thoughts and your feelings, so that you don’t have to feel their weight anymore! Declutter your mind so that you can feel total freedom in who and where you are!
