There is not a perfect time to start when it comes to getting back on track with your health goals. No matter if you want to start right this second, two weeks from now, or in 2019, I think that even thinking about getting healthy and stronger is amazing and I give you big props! There are many reasons why people get off track, but I want you to leave that in the past and start new. Don’t worry about why you stopped – just worry about getting back into it, in order to get healthier and stronger. Today, I want to talk all about how to get back on track with your health goals because I know that getting back into the swing of things is hard work. It is something that a lot of people do not want to put effort into, but at the end of the day, it is worth it (But you SO are YOU!), and if you take small steps every single day, you will get where you want to be. Trust yourself and trust the process. Celebrate the small victories. You ready?! Let’s jump right in:

Before you set your goals and start changing your diet or workout regimen, I highly suggest that you check in with your doctors first. Your family doctor will most likely want to do blood work, or a basic physical, just to make sure you are in tip top shape before making any crazy changes. They will probably offer advice on how you can get back on track. I definitely suggest hearing them out! One doctor that most forget about is your dentist. Your dental health and your overall health and wellness have more in common than you think. For example, bad breath is often the result of a underlying health issue, which most do not realize.
Dr. Simms from Metro Decatur Dental Group PC says, “Teeth cleaning is a routine part of a dental checkup, but you may not realize how important regular teeth cleaning can be for your overall health. Medical studies have shown that good oral hygiene not only helps prevent tooth loss, but can prevent heart disease, dementia and issues of diabetes, as well.” While you may think that you are doing a great job with your brushing and flossing, there is more that goes into it. A professional tooth cleaning goes beyond the gum line and can help prevent gum disease, which can lead to serious problems with bone and tooth loss, as well as other underlying medical issues.
All in all, your dental health is not something to skip over. If you are in search of a new dentist, Metro Decatur Dental Group PC could be the right office for you. Located in Decatur, Georgia, this full service dental office is dedicated to providing the most up to date general, orthodontic and family dentistry. Their clinic has grown to provide a world class facility for the treatment of tooth loss, dental cosmetics and advanced restorative dentistry, accepts insurance cards, and guarantees success of treatments.
Set yourself up for success by creating reasonable goals for yourself, before you get started. Do you want to lose weight? Get toned up? Eat healthier? Whatever it is, do not overdo it, or you will end up burning yourself out (sometimes before you even get started!). If you want to set up a weight loss plan for yourself, instead of just saying “I want to lose 20 pounds,” start off by setting a goal of 5 and keep increasing that goal as you go on.
The quote, “abs are made in the kitchen” is very true and if you are going to be stuck cooking healthier meals, you might as well have fun with it! There are so many great healthy recipes online that you can try out and some of them will even impress your guests. In addition to eating healthy meals, you also need to make sure you are drinking enough water. If you struggle with it, try mixing in things like cucumber, strawberries, etc. or switch it up by adding sparkling water into the mix.
Find a purpose in being outdoors. Whether it is for a walk, a run, or a skip or a hop, just get outside and thrive. Have a little more time on your hands then go on a hike or a walking tour of your nearest city, you will be amazed at what you may find and discover. But the most important thing is to move, because once you start moving you will find it becomes very difficult to stop and you will be amazed at the many different views and the perspective that’s out there to gain!
Giving yourself grace during this process, as well as in everyday life is very important. We are far from perfect – it is natural to mess up and if you do, it is okay. According to Psychology Today, “Grace is about acceptance, forgiveness, love and as hard and bitter as this is to swallow, it heals you unlike anything else.
There is no magic formula, but those who are open to the possibility of it occurring and those who practice self- compassion will tell you that grace begins to mold together the fractures. Grace evaporates fear. And fear is often what lines the hearts and minds of the bereaved.” If you mess up, accept it, move on, and start fresh the next day. Give yourself grace.
