Well friends, we are two weeks in to the work-from-home, virtual teaching and learning and all I have to say is at least I can thank corona for giving me the push to finally organizing and making my home office space a place where I can truly treasure my moments at home working. And now, the at home moments working have completely taken over as we are officially homebody status through the end of April and fingers crossed we can celebrate the last three weeks of the semester in our building seeing the sweetest students face to face! Anyways, back to the home grind here and I am so pleased to share with you my official home office tour. I created a little IGTV over on my feed taking you through the entire space, but thought this post would be helpful for all your home office organization and decor inspiration. So here ya go sweet friends, the essentials you need for all things home office.
One of my favorite parts of my entire office is the large writing desk. This desk was actually a thrift store find my sweet parents found my junior year of college and it has made its way with me through apartment to apartment and now finally home sweet home. I found some similar large writing desks and have linked them below for your shopping pleasure. However, I strongly encourage a large writing desk to be essential for your home office. A space for work, a space for dreams, and a space to create, whatever way that looks like for you! And extra points if you can consistently keep your desk space clutter-free. (As I am laughing at the thought of having to pul back the hundreds of papers that all still need to be graded, that I so perfectly tucked away in my Vera Bradley Canvas Bookbag to take the remaining photos for this official office home tour.
I had so much fun putting together this little gallery wall on display behind my desk space. And what is even funnier is, I already had the items in my office, purchased a month ago, without even realizing that this wall would soon become my backdrop for all my homemade, recorded lectures and zoom calls. In planning out this gallery wall, I knew I wanted to showcase the beautiful Boston print I received as a Christmas gift and I also knew I wanted to display faux greenery. I have fallen in love with both the wreath and hanging planter from Target and both are super affordable. Additionally, the shelf is a Target find and I feel like makes the entire statement of the gallery. This little space turned out better than I had thought, just don’t look to close or pass judgement on the slight tilt of the frames!
So here is the thing about this coffee bar. When J and I first got married, my sister gifted us all the essentials for a coffee bar. We set it up in the corner of our apartment and it was just about the sweetest little nook. Well, with exactly one year spent in our apartment, we custom-built our home (which we live in still) and the kitchen, which we both LOVE, did not have any room for the coffee bar. Therefore, the coffee bar was relocated to the wall in the office and has been the holder of all the most random things for roughly six years. Until a week ago. Finding the silver lining in all the things right now as my coffee bar has been fully restored and now is one of my very favorite parts of my entire office space. Complete with Keurig and all, as well as some of my very favorite coffee mugs courtesy of Rachel Allene. It’s funny how the simplest of things can spark so much joy, and this space absolutely does it for me.
Another funny note to share, these white bookshelves have been standing in the office for years, and truthfully, the bookshelf you are seeing on the far left is actually a dark chestnut brown bookshelf that I repainted white (and if you look close enough you will be sure to see it!). This was the first “major” project I embarked on once in our home and I am laughing now at how hard I worked to manually put together these things, plus paint all within this very room! Anyways, I have always loved having them and I sure do love what these sweet shelves contain. And as I spent significant time this morning cleaning and re-organizing, I smiled as I dusted off my history books and the history books my sweet grandfather gave to me (we share a love for history!) The real icing on the cake was when I opened up the box in the basement containing all my room decor from high-school/college (the one box that I held onto with all the sweetest mementos!) And I found some of the sweetest canvas paintings from the dearest of friends that I truly believe make this space all the more worthy.
Additionally, I believe an office space should be contained with plentiful natural light to warm the mind, body, and soul. My desk looks at over a massive window overlooking the neighborhood and I just love during the day, opening the blinds, and the windows and watching as the sweetest two pups sniff the fresh, spring air! Additionally, I would like to add, all the photos that do contain my sweet and adorable pups, believe it or not are not staged, I just have two sweet pups that adore their mamma and are nowhere near camera shy.
The last tip that I will share in regards to all things office, definitely fine-tune your organizational system. (I can hear my mom laughing as she reads this because she knows me so well and will find this hard to believe) however, find your own little space and way to have a place for the things you need. I love using photo boxes, wicker bins, and storage baskets to all help create a purpose in everything! Well, friends, that is all I have today, I hope you enjoyed this little debriefing of my home office space, and if you haven’t been sure to head over to the Instagram to see this sweet little tour. Happiest of weekends friends. Stay safe and healthy out there.
