Anyone else feel as if their inbox was out to get them over the past few days with all the Black Friday & Cyber Monday sales? I know I definitely felt a sense of overwhelm every time I saw more notifications for every sale known to man. Which brings me to today’s very important message with something I am incredibly passionate about and that is supporting and shopping small businesses. Today I am going to share with you 5 reasons to shop small business this holiday season and encourage you to make your purchases count by investing in the hearts and dreams of others this holiday season.
Anyone else been feeling a little confused as to what day it has been, following the days after Thanksgiving? I know I definitely was. This past weekend was small business Saturday. I love how so many come together to support and shop small businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving. However, truthfully, I am a firm believer in shopping small businesses all year round.
Shopping small business is integral to our economy and a necessity for our human ecosystem. To be able to truly support each other and our dreams and invest in the passions of the creative minds around us. Say yes this holiday season and beyond to choosing to invest in the dreams and supporting others. Which can easily be done when choosing to shop small businesses in your community. As well as choosing to shop small businesses online.
As we approach the holiday season, it is so important to make it a priority to be purposeful with your purchases. To make it a priority to support those and the companies you feel like you can truly stand behind. Now, more than ever, we need to support and believe in, with our purchases, the small businesses. It comes at no surprise that the economy is changing. Our consumer landscape is changing. There is no better time than now to make our purchases count by shopping small businesses.
If shopping small business also blesses your heart and something you support, check out this Small Business Holiday Gift Guide for several ideas of gifts to give this holiday season. When you shop small, there is an intentionality in supporting the local maker and the creator. There is a purpose in supporting the creative heart that is pouring all they have and more into their heart as they build their small businesses.
Which brings me to the core of this message, the five specific reasons why you should shop small businesses this holiday season to truly invest in others, this holiday season!
The very first reason to shop small business is because your purchase matters. When you shop small business, your purchase matters even more than when you choose to buy from a larger retailer. Your purchase is not only helping to financially support someone’s small business, which in turn goes to help fund and contribute to their living expenses, but also you are supporting the dreams and visions of someone else’s heart. Your purchase is helping an entire family’s dreams. And that is something that is so incredibly important and powerful. You as the consumer can make that happen when you make that purchase.
By shopping and supporting small businesses, it is one of the best ways to show someone that you support them, notice them & appreciate them. No matter what their small business is, by choosing to shop small business, you are communicating to that individual, that friend, that family that you support them. Every single person wants to feel noticed and appreciated. And even one small purchase can communicate that to the small business you are supporting.
The third reason why you should shop small this holiday season, you are investing in the future. The future generation. The future small business owners. When you make that decision with your wallet to make that purchase, you are investing in the individuals who have ideas and desires for using their talents and their gifts to truly lift up and change the world. By shopping small business, you are contributing to an environment to help make that possible. You are helping give life to ideas and creating a space for young future world changers to grow and be molded into the person they truly want to be.
The fourth reason to shop small businesses this holiday season is you are supporting the local economy which in turn is helping support your entire community. The owners of local businesses employ local people. Buying local and supporting small businesses helps keep over FOUR times the money in the economy compared to shopping at chains. Additionally, supporting local businesses supports local charities and local community groups way more than big corporations. Small businesses and local businesses help the local economy as well, by supporting local products as well as local services, keeping the money in the local economy.
A powerful statistic I saw earlier, shared from the Instagram account @theskimm, when you spend $100 at a small business, $68 stays in the community compared to $43 when shopping at a national chain. That is powerful. When you shop small, you support the local economy and that goes an incredibly long way!
Finally, the fifth reason why you should shop small business this holiday season, you are helping make someone else’s dreams come true. And that is incredibly important. Investing in the future, investing in the dreams of future generations and empowering world changers. All made completely possible by shopping small business, not just during the holidays. But shopping small business year round.
