A big hello to the month of May. I am always a big fan when the first of the month falls on a Monday. Personally, I feel like it is the best of both worlds. I always am a big fan of Mondays, fully believing in the potential of a Monday to completely make a week! As well as, a big fan of the first of the month. Therefore, I am really feeling excited that these two dates are one and the same.
Believing big things for us as we head into a brand new month which just so happens to be my personal favorite of the whole year! In honor of my most favorite month, I have some incredible tips to share with you on specific things to do in May to live your best and most intentional life!
May is truly one of my favorite months of the entire year. My birthday is within the first week of May, as well as the count down to all things end of the school year. Which always make this teacher extra busy and things even more crazy. As well as, the sheer anticipation of sweet summer. May is definitely a fast-paced month, but a month that is worth living well!
I always love to brainstorm ways to live like your best self each month. Specifically for the month of May, I feel like everyone always agrees how crazy this month is. Between the end of the school year, to graduation, combined with Mother’s Day and every other kind of festivity. Personally, I feel like everyone has somebody in their family that has a birthday in May. Plus, the anticipation of summer which brings a new routine and schedule for most. This month is full of a lot.
It can be very easy for stress, overwhelm and anxiety to live with us as we walk through the month of May. However, my focus and intention here is for that to NOT BE the case. Instead, to find a peace and a purpose. To simply enjoy all the celebration around us without feeling the stress, and to simply soak up the joy! That is exactly what this May to-do list is.
Specific things for you to do in May in order for you to live a life you can be proud of. No matter what kind of season of life you are currently in. Truly, that is my desire and passion. My true hope and intention for us all this month. Despite the crazy and the routine of it all. Ignoring the pressure and overload of all the things going on. And instead, finding a way to be super intentional and present through it all.
This intentional to-do list is designed so that you can truly embody a place within yourself that lives from a state of peace. To find a new norm. To seek out the happy within the stillness. The confident in the quiet. To truly live a more intentional life this month. All so that you can be more proud of the moments you are in and feeling confident in who you are in each of those moments. Focus on being present and purposeful. Ensuring that the words said and the thoughts formed are uplifting. All so that we can move the conversation forward and cultivate these feelings close to our hearts.
In order for all this to be possible. For you to live an incredible and intentional life this month, I have FIVE things to focus on. Specifically FIVE things to do this May to allow you to live a more intentional life. This May to-do list has the intention for you to be more present this month. Especially during a month that seems to be overwhelming. As well as a month that seems to be full of crazy to do lists. Including all the things that need to be bought and all the events that need to be prepared for.
May is just extra and this list is created to equip you to handle this month. So that you don’t have to be stressed and you can stay confident and rooted in a solid foundation. All so that you can find happiness and to feel more at peace with who you are any given moment.
The very first thing for you to do in May in order to live a more intentional life is to set your gaze on what is directly in front of you. Simply, set your gaze directly in front of you. Focus on what’s in front of you in that moment. The truth is, it does you no good to focus on something that you can’t control unless you are able to control it in that very second. Instead, focus on where you are and how you show up in each and every moment. Focus on giving and serving to that one thing, in that one moment. Being fully present and fully aware of where you are in each moment.
I want to show up to what it is I’m doing in each moment this month fully there and fully present. I don’t want to be worried about things I can’t control. Nor, I don’t want to be worried about things that don’t impact my time or my schedule at this very moment. To shift my thinking and look at what I have going on in each moment. And focus in on where I am in that moment. It’s a really beautiful thing if we can do this more often.
It’s a really beautiful and freeing thing. Because when we can focus our eyes set directly in front of us. The very thing we are currently standing in. If I look at what’s in front of me, I’m not looking at something else. I’m not worried about the future, nor am I worried about tomorrow. I am just trying to be more alive in this moment. There’s a power that comes with it and it eliminates stress and it eliminates worry. Focusing on what is currently in front of you allows you to be so incredibly in tune with who and where you are.
It’s important to be more aware of how we are feeling because if we know how we’re feeling then we know what we need in the moment. And we know how to address it. It’s important to be able to have those conversations with yourself. And if our focus is ahead or around, or even the past, then we are not honest with what it is we actually need in the now. Therefore, the very first thing to do this month is to focus your gaze set directly in front of you like eyes are right there where you are in this moment and being fully present right there.
The very next thing to do in May is to prioritize rest. I feel like this has to be on the list for the month of May because if we don’t put it on the list for the month, well we are not going to do it at all. We must prioritize rest by creating and cultivating more moments of rest within our week and within our day. Being intentional with it. Planning ahead and moving up bedtime 30 minutes earlier. Naturally by doing that for my son I can do that for myself and focus on how can I take my schedule and find more moments of quiet within it.
Plan more moments where you as a household can really be intentional with making sure we are cultivating that rest. It is through the moments of rest that we find growth and it is through the moments of rest that we can reset. Through the rest that we can give ourselves the actual things we need, whether that is physically, mentally or emotionally. This is necessary in order to be able to continue to show up each day and each moment as the person we need to be. Therefore, the second thing to do this month is to prioritize rest.
A couple ways to do this could include moving up bedtime for the kids. Or even moving your bedtime up for yourself. Another idea could be implementing a quiet time where you are screen-free. Whether that is within your own winding down time at night. Focusing in more on either reading or journaling. Prioritizing the moments of simply laying in the quiet and just closing your eyes without having to scroll and look at something or find some sort of stimulation elsewhere.
The third essential thing to do this May is to practice the art of slower living. This is a rhythm I would love to implement this month because May is fast. It’s fast living. May means all the things you have to do and all the places you have to be. Including all the celebrations for all the things. It’s important to realize that we don’t always need to be somewhere nor do we always have to be doing something.
Yes, it’s fun and great and exciting. To try to do all the things. Complete the bucket list of all the fun things and all the activities. The summer things I know so many of us will sit and plan out our summer to do list. The summer list of fun and adventure. However, we can find abundant fun in slowing down. In fact, I believe there’s more fun to be found and more magic in store when we slow the moments down.
We can uncover stronger happiness and more purposeful moments by living in the slow and the steady. By not feeling rushed and not feeling like we have to constantly pack a bag, or unpack a bag to go to the next thing. Instead, just be happy in the art of living slower. Therefore, I challenge you. Maybe take a weekend throughout the month of May where you actually don’t put anything on your calendar. Instead, just take it slow, stay home, spend time outside. Go on walks and just find a slower pace to the life that you’re living. I guarantee that after that weekend you are going to feel so incredibly refreshed and even more alive full of more energy by living a little slower.
The fourth necessary thing to do in May is to spend time reevaluating your schedule. This is something we all need to do. Take true inventory of the things going on in your life. Actually think through all of those things. As there are things that you don’t need to do right now. Look at your schedule! Are there things you can get rid of? Is there something that’s not working and that just needs to be reevaluated? Maybe a commitment that you can temporarily put off for a couple of months until you find more of a groove. What is it in your life, in your own daily patterns that’s causing you significant stress? What’s contributing to the overwhelm?
What are some things that you can look at that if you eliminate this from your day or your family schedule that can actually give you more room in your mental and physical capacity. It is so incredibly important for us, especially in a society that emphasizes from an early age overloading your schedule and overbooking your time, to have free time. It’s so important to reevaluate what is on your plate and to take an honest look as to what is working and what needs to change.
Reevaluate and rework your schedule here and there to give yourself more room to breathe. Therefore, I strongly encourage you this month to reevaluate your schedule. Especially as we think ahead to the summer months. The months where a lot of our schedules and routines change. To plan ahead for the summer months and be purposeful. To not overwhelm your schedule in order to have a little less of all the go and the go. Allow yourself to truly find more ways to live a little slower and prioritize that rest and that reset that you absolutely need.
The fifth thing to do this month is to ground yourself routinely. When I think of grounding myself, I think of being firmly planted at where I’m standing and being okay with it. Being in the moment fully as I am. Therefore, this month, take root in where you are. Commit to the you where you are currently standing. It can be so easy to focus on where you want to be in a certain timeframe. So easy to focus on how you want to feel or all the things you want to accomplish.
By looking thirty days from now or six weeks from now, it can be easy to focus on the things we want to achieve in that timeframe. We focus on wanting to find ways to feel better by that timeframe. Instead, focus on where we actually are. We have to find the happiness with where we are. Additionally, we have to find the contentment with where we are right now. We owe it to ourself.
It is so important to be proud, comfortable and confident in the person we are. This is necessary in order to make any sort of improvement or any sort of change for where we want to go in the future. Why not take root in where I’m standing right now. Why not shift the focus to where I’m standing right now in this moment. How do we find that confidence now. How do we find that confidence in where you are now and so ground yourself routinely this month each day take a moment to focus in on where you’re standing. And to take root right there and commit to the you that you are right now in this moment.
It’s so important to want change. It’s so important to want to cultivate better habits I get it. Right? There’s a lot of habits that I want to improve. There’s so many things in my life right now that I just want to feel stronger at and be healthier in but it’s so important to start with where we are and focus our gaze and our eyes on us right here in this moment. And on the people that we love and where we are in our life in this current moment and if we can do that this month if we can focus on where we are grounding ourselves routinely taking true inventory of what’s going well and what’s not working and how can we make the right changes to really.
Do ourselves a huge honor and service of living a life that isn’t full of this extra overwhelm and this extra load and prioritize rest and practice the art of slower living if we can do these 5 things this month and they all really fit together. They all kind of impact each other and go with one another man are we going to be set up for success and really letting this be the intention that we not just live through the month of may but practice throughout the summer and hold this as a new foundation for how we live each and every moment being present and intentional because you owe it to yourself because you are doing a great job.
You are doing an incredible job. There’s a lot going on and you have so much on your plate. But I want you to know that you are doing a freaking awesome job. Therefore, take a moment and be proud of what it is that you’ve done and be proud of what it is that you’ve accomplished. Be proud of the mountain that you are climbing. And take the time to find the confidence with where you currently are and how you are currently standing. Knowing that it is the confidence that you can gain right now where you are, to be able to move forward to where you hope to go.
I hope you have an amazing month. Truly believing in amazing and big things for you this month. Believing that this is a month where you can find that time to slow down and through slowing down you will cultivate so much more! Cheering you on every single step of the way.
