How the Changing Season Can Be the Best Time to Prioritize Your Wellness

Maybe you are like me, and maybe you view the fall and the winter months as a time for self-hibernation. You give yourself permission to put aside your own health and wellness goals and instead, enjoy the finer things of the season. Forgoing the balanced diet and healthy eating to instead indulge in all the holiday things.

From the indulgent pumpkin spice lattes to the abundant comfort foods that invite the stay in and cozy vibe. It is so easy to want to put our own personal health goals on the back burner. Waiting until a new season, when springtime rolls around to reassess and regroup. But of course, spring quickly becomes summer, and summer then turns to fall, and here we are once again without really making any progress towards the healthier version of ourselves that we want to become.

Allow This Season To Be Different

But what if we decided this year was going to be different? What if we, yes, both you and me, made a stand to say, no, I am taking authority over how I feel and my physical health and my wellness this very fall season. What if we did that? It is absolutely possible.

This list of specific fall wellness tips is going to help you get there. And the really good thing about this list is it’s not going to give you a ridiculous, unrealistic list of things to do in order to be this most optimal, perfect, amazing version of yourself. Specifically, little simple changes to make every single day in order to slowly take a step in that direction of achieving your desired personal health and wellness goals.

8 Ways to Prioritize Your Wellness This Fall Season

The fall season is the perfect time to prioritize your wellness. And in order to do that I am sharing eight specific things to do. Honestly, the items on this list of fall wellness tips is not what you would think to expect. This is probably not your typical list when you think of wellness tips or healthy tips.  While some of the wellness tips are pretty standard to what you would expect, but there are a few others that are a little bit different. But most definitely things that I believe are truly important when prioritizing and emphasizing our own personal wellness.

And especially as the fall season takes place, and then as the seasons change to winter when we embrace an even more cozier time of the year. It’s cozy to be bundled up and curled up on the couch with all the blankets and the pillows, especially during the colder weather. Snuggled up with a favorite movie or favorite book and to just enjoy that time.

However, we also want to make sure during this time that we are still doing the things that we need. That we are getting enough sleep, physical activity, the sunshine, and fresh air. It is important to make sure we are giving ourselves the time to do the things we are meant to have so that we can thrive. Therefore, eight ways to really prioritize your wellness this fall to take better care of you.

Fall Wellness Tips #1 – Drink more water

First of the fall wellness tips is to drink more water.  This is so important and essential to fall health tips. The best way to actually take better care of yourself is to make sure to drink plenty of water. Just do it. This is one of the easiest ways to be healthier. And I know for some people it comes very naturally. While, for others it is a huge challenge. Therefore,  I am going to encourage you no matter where you are on your scale of love to drink water or hate to drink water, wherever you fall in that spectrum, please make sure you drink more water this fall season.

Make It a Habit to Drink More Water

One of the best ways to drink more water is to have a water bottle that is easy to utilize. Something that is going to put you in a happy mood. A water bottle that makes you smile when you fill up your cup. That’s easy to carry with you throughout your day so that you can definitely make sure you’re drinking more water.

I equally love my Stanley Hydration Thirst Quencher as well as my Simply Modern water bottle. It is always a great idea to treat yourself to a favorite water bottle to help with the motivation to drink more water. Yes, this is your permission to buy the water bottle that you’ve been wanting to buy because if it gives you more of a motivation to drink water then it’s a thousand percent worth it. Make a little note to yourself within your planner, or actually write it out on your to-do list. See if this can become a part of your habit tracking. Simply, make a point to see how many times you can fill up your water bottle and stay hydrated. Therefore, first of the easy, fall wellness tip is to drink more water.

Fall Wellness Tips #2 – Swap a coffee with a seasonal tea

Second on the list of fall wellness tips is to swap a coffee with a seasonal tea. Now notice I said swap a coffee. So if you are the multi coffee drinkers that drink multiple cups of coffee during the day, maybe think about swapping one of those cups of coffee for a seasonal tea. Something that is a nice herbal tea, that utilizes the fun fall scents, aromas and spices. Something that has good immunity benefits as well, to it that can really just put you in a different place from not having the coffee. Or the extra caffeine, or sugar. Therefore to improve upon your own health and wellness this autumn season, consider swapping one of your coffees for a nice, seasonal herbal tea.

#3 – Swap the screens for a book

The third of our fall wellness tips is to swap the screens for a book. This is good. I know, it’s so cozy and so fun to watch all the holiday things. And of course, there is a time for that. However, try to be aware of what you are doing to your eyes and what you’re doing to your brain based on when you are looking at. Based on what is on a screen and really think of more times in your day and in your evening or your morning where you start the day with a book or end the day with a book instead. Allow yourself to get lost in that story. Instead of just sitting there and scrolling and scrolling and hurting your eyes and negatively affecting your sleep in the process. Therefore, the third fall wellness tip is to swap the screens for a book.

Autumn Wellness Tips #4 – Spend more time outside each day

Fourth on our list of autumn wellness tips is to spend more time outside each day. Find ways to spend more quality time outside each day. Start with just twenty minutes a day. Twenty minutes to expose yourself to enough vitamin d to give your body exactly what it needs. Now I originally had thirty minutes. However, I think twenty minutes is still super quality. And sometimes if you say thirty minutes that can feel slightly overwhelming. Whereas, twenty minutes is easier to manage and more doable. Especially when balancing and managing busier schedules.

Therefore, spend more quality time outside during the autumn season. The days are getting shorter and it is so important to make sure we are still spending time outside and doing what our hearts and spirits need by spending that time in the fresh air. Take a moment to look at your schedule and see where there is time to plan a little park outing. Or time in the evening to spend playtime out on the driveway. Or go for a walk. Simply find more ways to spend more time outside. This is a really good way to optimize your wellness and your health by spending that time outside.

Autumn Wellness Tips #5 – Go to bed earlier

Next on the list of autumn wellness tips is to go to bed earlier. Go to bed earlier, and prioritize getting sleep. Give yourself the sleep your body needs. Go to sleep well before midnight so that you actually get the quality sleep that your body needs to reset and allow yourself to really function in a more optimal way. Use this time of the year to prioritize establishing a healthier sleep schedule.

And the more you go to bed earlier, the easier it is to get up in the morning. Which gives you more room and freedom to be able to work out in the morning or start your morning in a quiet, devotional like way. Just giving that time for you that you need in the morning. So, definitely prioritize getting the sleep that your body needs and going to bed earlier.

Establish a Healthier Sleep Pattern

And if you can make that a little habit, a little pattern. Think through how many hours of sleep you want to get at night. Focus on how you want to feel when you wake up, and see if you can work on setting this really cool new routine within your home, within your life of prioritizing getting the sleep you need.

You can track this in your planner, make little notes as to when you ideally want to try to go to bed at night. And assess what is working and what doesn’t work. For instance, this is working great on this day of the week, but not working great on this day of the week. Simply, allow this to be something you play around with, especially as the nights do get longer. As the sun sets earlier, it’s easier to put yourself to bed earlier. So really prioritize getting yourself the sleep that you need this fall season.

#6 – Drink more smoothies

Another best way to take better care of yourself this fall season is to incorporate more smoothies. I’m a big smoothie girl during the summer. I feel like once the school year really gets full swing and then the seasons change, my smoothie drinking tends to stop. However, for me, smoothies are such a really great way to be able to get in a whole lot of nutrients. From spinach, a whole bunch of greens, additional protein, chia seeds, frozen fruit and Greek yogurt.

Additionally, different juices that have a lot of high antibodies and immune boosting capabilities. Definitely Incorporate more smoothies into your daily routine and make it fun. They’re so tasty. It’s such a great way to start the day. So tasty and It’s a tip that I do really well during the summer, but not so much in the fall and the winter months. So, just a little reminder to you to think about incorporating more smoothies in your day. And that’s a good way to really get you the nutrition that you need, and making sure that you’re getting the proper servings, especially of greens. Therefore, drink more smoothies this fall.

Autumn Wellness Tips #7 – Get creative with a workout routine that works for you

Seventh on the list of autumn wellness tips is to get creative with a workout routine that works for the season that you’re in. The season looks different, things are changing, right? Thanks to daylight savings time, the number of hours of sunshine in the day is getting smaller. And so you have to get a little creative to think, when am I going to prioritize working out? Now is a great time to experiment with a different exercise routine.

When am I going to prioritize making sure I’m able to move my body and do the things that I need to do and find that challenge? Think through different ideas, different ways to really, truly get creative with a workout routine that works for you and have fun with it and make it a point to see, okay, can I stay consistent with this? And can I try something different? Something’s not working, right? Put yourself out there and see what you can do.

#8 – Soak in a bubble bath

Finally, last on the list of autumn wellness tips is my absolute favorite. Soak in a bubble bath, take time to decompress, take time to reset, take time to unwind and physically take a load off and add bubbles, add Epsom salt, allow yourself to get that actual mineral detox that can really put all of your levels in the best place possible. Definitely a really great way to enjoy the season, to take care of yourself throughout the fall, soak in a bubble bath.
