It’s finally here, a brand new year. The beginning of January and we have an entire calendar year ahead of us with endless possibilities and hope. Full of all the hope in the world that this is going to be the year. So much of life over the last five years have been a whirlwind for all of us. So many of us have dealt with trials and challenges, as well as life changes and transformations. And maybe it’s just me, but I feel like a lot of the last several years has been a feeling of lets hold on tight and just see what happens. Attempting to just do the best you can!
One of my favorite aspects of a brand new year is the idea that it is a fresh start. An opportunity in the here and now to be excited and to have hope. So many of us love the hope that the start of a brand new year can bring.
The idea that we can reflect and look back at the past year to figure out what didn’t work. The things that simply weren’t going well. And to take all those things and accept that all that didn’t go right is behind us! Instead, we are greeted with what’s in front of us. A full 365 days optimistic hope. Of the excited belief in let’s see what happens. For so many of us it’s that hope in the New Year that is uplifting and something to hold on to. Therefore, I hope you are feeling hope and excitement as you embrace this brand new year.
So many years I have done all the things in preparation for the start of a brand new year. I have written the goals, created the vision, established the vision. But this year, in all honesty, I have not had the time. We are in the thick of parenting a toddler, nearing the end of the second trimester, and balancing life as a working mom. Therefore, the time that I long for to be able to do those things, to set myself up for the brand new year is just now happening.
And that is okay. Because the beautiful thing is we can still have dreams and have goals and have hopes even when the situation isn’t what we would like it to be. Even if we are unable to go to our favorite coffee shop and sit there for hours with all the time in the world to journal and plan. To dream and build your vision board. This is your permission to know that you have the freedom and you have your own capability to simply accept what you need to accept and own it as yours. Simply not worry about everything else.
Have the freedom to know right now that whatever you dealt with in 2024, no matter how hard. No matter how challenging. That no matter how desperate you feel for the fresh start of a new year, just know that you’re okay. And that it’s okay.
Please know that the things that you went through, as hard as they are, that you are still here. Know that you have made it! You can close that door and close that chapter and take everything you’ve experienced Into a brand new year. You can use that to have hope and to have the faith that things are going to get a little bit better.
That you are going to find a little bit more joy. You are going to find a little bit more peace. Therefore, give yourself the permission that you need to let this be the year you need it to be because things work the best when they are suited specifically for what you are currently going through.
Give yourself the permission to let this new year be whatever it is you need it to be. So many people may encourage you by sharing their word for the year, or what there goal is. While that’s great and can be inspiring and motivating, it’s only going to work if it’s something that is suited specifically to you.
It is only going to work if it is something that is so niche to who you are right now. In this moment, within this season of life. With what you are currently working with, with what you’re dealing with, with what you are currently going through. Therefore, give yourself the permission, as we begin 2025, to let this be the year you need it to be for you right now.
The very version of you that woke up today, the version of you that is being fulfilled by whatever it is that is currently fulfilling you. As well as the version of you that is feeling defeated. And the version of you that feels overwhelmed by the rest. Start off this year by giving yourself the permission to let it be what you need it to be.
For some people that might look like a reset. The beautiful feeling of relief, of hitting the reset button and beginning again. Well, for others that may look undecided at this point, and that’s absolutely okay. You don’t have to start January 1st. You can take a few days, or a few weeks. In fact, you can take the whole entire month if you need to. In order to figure out what you want your focus to be or your goals for the next year to be.
Maybe you need more than a month. Maybe you’re at this point where the last couple of years have been extremely hard and challenging. Therefore you decide to take January and February and simply see what happens. Then reset in March. And that is perfectly okay. Do what works for you.
Allow this to be the year where the imperfections win. The year where we show up big in the mess that we are in. Not worried about what other people think. Nor worried about what it may look like. But we actually normalize the way we feel on not just the good days, but also on the bad days, and on all the days in between.
I love to talk about dreams. Specifically, creating big dreams for yourself and establishing goals to help you get there. One of the most important things that I want you to know right now, at the very beginning of this brand new year, is this.
Your small dreams, the ordinary dream, the dream that doesn’t even feel like a dream because it may appear so insignificant to other people. Those dreams matter. No matter how big, no matter how small, no matter how insignificant. The littlest of things that you hold in your heart, that you want for yourself and your family and the people around you. Those little things matter.
I encourage you, as you approach 2025, to focus on living this year focused on achieving a feeling. Set your sights and your actions ahead to the things that will make you feel a certain way. Focus in on how you want to feel at the end of the day?
What feeling do you want to feel in your heart when you end your day? When you climb into bed at night, how do you want to feel? What is the most important thing you want to feel within your heart at the very end of the day?
Do you want to feel accomplished? Feeling capable and proud of yourself because you completed a lot of big tasks. Or maybe you want to feel fulfilled. Do you want to end your day feeling like the actions you took and the time that you spent doing the things that you did had meaning and that it was worth it?
Or do you want to feel peace? Do you want your end of the day feeling to be one of peace. Rooted in the truth, cultivated in the slow moments. Or, do you want to feel in order? Do you want to feel like you gained a little more control of the chaos that is around you?
Maybe you want to feel more present in the moment? Do you want to get to the end of each day and feel like you put a really good effort forward? Being present in the moments that you are in and not worried about the things you can’t control. This year, focus inward on a feeling. And allow that to shape your routines and procedures as you head into this brand new year.
I do have three words for the new year. Three words to guide you as you begin the brand new year. Three words that I believe are the only three things you need as your toolkit to start this new year off on the best foot forward and the best possible standing. And these words are simple words. These are words you probably wouldn’t think of if you’re thinking of, okay, a word of the year.
But these three words for the new year are going to help guide you and help keep you focused on what’s in front of you. Three words to allow you to really approach this year in a way where you can focus on the meaningful things. The things that have the most deep connection to your heart and to the things that you care about the most.
The first of the words for the new year is purpose. When you focus on purpose, and you focus on what it is that you are focused on and working towards. A sense of purpose helps us so much because it provides clarity and direction.
When we have purpose, this allows us to know exactly what our focus is. And when we know what our purpose is, it really reminds us of the reasons why. Therefore, it helps us stay more committed and helps us keep ourself more focused on the sights in front of us. So, when you’re planning out your year and focusing on the things that you want to achieve. Thinking of the things that you want to do, focus in on your purpose.
What is the purpose that you have for yourself this year? What is the most important thing that you are working towards within your own self. Within yourself as a human, as a mom, as a friend, as a teacher, as a business owner? Where is your purpose? Identify what that purpose is. Once you know what that purpose is, cling to it with all you can. Make sure that the actions you have and the things that you’re doing align accordingly.
It can be easy to think you have to do all the things. When you look at how others may live their life, assuming what works great for them and then deciding to try it out. However, if you’re not doing the things that are connected to your own unique purpose, then what’s the point? Where are you going to fall short if you’re not lining up with what you need in this particular moment. Within this season of life.
So, this year, have purpose. Have a sense of purpose with the things that you’re doing. And with the things that you’re dreaming about. Have a sense of purpose with how you spend your time. Specifically, how you spend your quiet moments. Allow that purpose to be something that excites you. .
And if this is something that you feel a little lost in, where you feel like it is a struggle to determine your purpose. My encouragement to you is to focus in on the things that you feel passionate about. Focus in on where and how you show up currently in your life. Who are the people that you interact with? Who are the people that you pour into the most? Often times, the things we spend our time doing create our own sense of purpose. Encourage yourself to show up in those moments. Be excited and be hopeful about finding your purpose in those moments that you are in.
Be more open to recognizing the good that you can bring to the situation you’re in. By focusing on the good and focusing on what you can provide to those situations, it’s going to allow you to recognize a deeper meaning. And it’s that deeper meaning that will give you a lot more fulfillment when you recognize that there’s actually a really cool result to your actions.
Therefore, your first word to hold on to and cling to as you begin this brand new year is purpose. Have a sense of purpose in this new year to provide you with clarity and direction. Specifically, to know what your focus is and to keep your sights forward on that specific purpose throughout the entire year.
The second of our words for the new year for 2025 is expectation. Now this is not expectations, but the singular word, expectation. As you head into the new year, carry with you expectation. The belief that there are good things to come. An expectant hope and excitement for what’s going to happen in the future. Carry this anticipation with you every single day. Be open to it. Be excited.
Wake up in the morning with the awesome belief that today’s going to be a good day. There’s going to be something really good in today and I can’t wait to find it. I can’t wait to appreciate it. Wake up with the expectation of I can’t wait to celebrate it. This goes beyond just the expectation of what could happen. But also an anticipation of what good is in store for you. And not just the good things, not just the glamorous things, but also the growth.
Because we want to grow and we want to learn. We want to evolve, we want to become different layers of ourselves that we are destined to become. Therefore, we have to expect that. We have to anticipate it! Allow that expectation of the growth that will come to be motivating. Allow that to be inspiring. Know that right now, the version of you that ends 2025 is not going to be the same version of you that starts it.
And that is a good thing. You are going to learn things and you’re going to be pushed and challenged by so many different things. Specifically, things that you might not even realize that that were possible to deal with January 1st. However, by the end of the year, December 2025, you’re going to realize you have become a whole new level of yourself.
A whole new layer of yourself because of the things experienced. You’ll need that growth and you’ll need that new layer within you to be able to head in towards the next year of growth. Therefore, this year, carry with yourself expectation, and an excitement for all the good things to come.
And finally, the third word for the new year is flexibility. Flexibility, the ability to bend but not break. The ability to adjust your plan just a little bit to be able to allow things to work out the way they’re needed to work out. An openness to being more flexible in how you live and approach each day. Give yourself a chance this year to embrace flexibility.
Allow the moments where things must change course or go a slightly different path than originally planned, allow those moments to be met with a mindset of acceptance and openness. More specifically, a willingness to see what can happen instead of staying so grounded in what you think you know to be true.
There are so many things that we don’t even recognize or know about ourselves because we like to stay comfortable. So many of us prefer to stay in our own comfort zones. However, when you approach life with a flexible mindset and a flexible outlook. With flexible actions and flexible routines. It allows you to be okay to jump across that comfort line and recognize that there’s a lot in store for you there.
Therefore, as you embark on this year. As you embark on the beginnings of 2025. Heading through the first couple of days and weeks and months, I urge you to adhere to these words for the new year. That you would be flexible, and have expectation, as well as stay glued to your sense of purpose.
I am so excited for you. I’m so excited for you to experience all the growth you’re going to experience this year. As well as all the joy that you’re going to experience throughout the new year! Believing that these words for the new year will encourage your heart and motivate you in pursuit of your dreams. Cheering you on big throughout 2025! Have the best day!
